ACL Repair

Oct 6, 2011

Today I had my ACL repaired.  I was the first patient this morning with surgery at 7:00am.  The surgery seemed like it took no time at all due to the anesthesia, but it really took about an hour and a half.  I choose to have an allograft procedure (a gift of donated connective tissue) to reconnect my ACL.  Allograft procedures would not be possible with out the final act of generosity and kindness of donors and the support of their family.

I also had a femoral nerve block, which has made my entire leg numb.  I could stick a fork in my thigh right now and not feel a thing.  This has made today relatively pain free.  That will probably all change tonight while I’m having my beauty sleep.  So, my pain index now is not what I was expecting, but its going to change.  I guarantee it.

Tommorow, I have my first PT session to give the knee a look and a bend.  We’ll see how it feels then…more to come.

At my first PT session, I was able to move my knee past 90°.  I’m speculating that was really due to my leg was still relatively numb from the block.  I got a bunch of exercises to do.  ”Lotion is Motion” was the key phrase that my physical therapist told me.

Sunday, I can feel the knee today, but its not as I thought is was going to be.  Did all my exercises this morning and now just relaxing watching the Bills and then the Pat’s a 4:00.

I got got several calls from friends and family.  Thank you all for thinking of me.

On the mend…
